Frankie "Nannie" Haywood
Frankie “Nannie” Haywood, 83 year old Checotah resident, died peacefully, Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in Eufaula, OK. She was born on Monday, November 5, 1928 in Nashaoba, OK to Will and Avie Addington May. When she was ten years old, she moved with her family to Buffalo Valley where she received her education. Frankie moved to California where she met the love of her life, Harold Haywood, and they were married in Reno, Nevada in the mid 1940’s. After their marriage, they moved to Checotah where she became a homemaker, raising three children. In 1953 they founded the Checotah Round-up Club. Under a brush harbor, she created the concession stand for the round-up club, serving her famous “Sloppy Joes. They were active in the Old Settler Day’s Parade. After her children were grown, she worked at Farm Bureau, later going to work for Options, where she wore many hats. Frankie was baptized in the mid 1950’s at the Checotah Church of Christ, where she was a very active member, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She loved her church, and was led by her strong faith in her Lord. Frankie loved her family, children, sewing, making Cheerleader outfits for all the little girls that wanted to be a cheerleader, and was known for her delicious desserts. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold Haywood; her son, Tim Haywood; a sister, Jodie Wilmouth & a bother Jim May. Frankie is lovingly survived by her children, Kenny Haywood and his wife Barbara of Wilburton, Deborah Morgan of Checotah; nine grandchildren, Michelle Garvin and her husband Chris, K.C. May and his wife Ginger, Will Haywood and his wife Crystal, Chester “Boogie” Haywood, Dink Overmon, Dedra Fharnom, Jimmy Overmon, Stephen Haywood & Sheila Haywood. Also surviving are fourteen great-grandchildren, a sister Bernice Mitchell, and a brother Jerry May, nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends. Funeral Services will be 10AM Saturday, June 16, 2012 t Checotah Church Of Christ with Mr. Everett Dunn, officiating. Committal Prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Chester Haywood, Stephen Haywood, Will Haywood, Hunter Garvin, Bo Overmon, Dink Overmon, serving as Casket Bearers.
